In a powerful display of inclusion and community spirit, persons with disabilities (PWDs)—with a special focus on amputees—led a historic clean-up exercise in Eldoret City. The event aimed to highlight the capabilities of PWDs and push for their full inclusion in matters of development, environment, and community service.
The clean-up was led by nominated MCA Hon. Regina Chumba, a passionate advocate for disability rights, who called on members of the public to eliminate stigma and ensure persons with disabilities are actively involved in all aspects of society.
“As we clean our city, let’s also clean up stigma and involve our PWD brothers and sisters,” Chumba said during the event.
County officials joined the exercise in solidarity, led by Ms. Divina Salim from the Uasin Gishu Department of Solid Waste Management. She commended the participants for their dedication and noted that the county government is keen on promoting inclusive environmental action.
“This initiative supports Nguzo Number 7, which emphasizes environmental care. But beyond that, it shows that every member of society—regardless of physical ability—can contribute meaningfully,” said Ms. Salim.
The clean-up event was more than just a sanitation drive; it was a statement of equality, resilience, and teamwork. The Uasin Gishu County Government, through its social media platforms, praised the effort and reaffirmed its commitment to building a more inclusive and sustainable future for all residents.
