The National Council for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD) has officially launched its online disability registration service on the eCitizen platform.

This new platform marks a significant step forward for Kenya's disability movement, aligning with President William Ruto's directive to digitize government services.

The launch ceremony was attended by the Principal Secretary State Department for Social Protection and Senior Citizen Affairs Mr. Joseph Motari MBS, Director General of eCitizen Amb. Isaac Ochieng, Huduma Kenya Secretariat Ag. CEO Mr. Mugambi Njeru, development partners, and organizations of persons with disabilities.

Under the new system, individuals with disabilities can self-register on eCitizen using their mobile devices. The required documentation includes a disability medical assessment report, ID/birth certificate, and a passport-size photo.

Upon successful registration, applicants will receive a confirmation SMS and their disability registration certificate, which can be freely downloaded and printed.

Parents and caregivers of minors with disabilities can also register them on the platform. For individuals with disabilities who hold previous waiting cards, they can apply for the new certificate and retain their disability numbers.

Notably, this new approach eliminates the need for physical disability cards and the hassle of visiting county disability offices for registration.

Recognizing the importance of public awareness, the NCPWD plans to embark on extensive sensitization campaigns to educate the public about the new registration process.
