The National Council of Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD) on Saturday joined the world in marking International Women’s Day.

The event held at Tom Mboya University in Homa Bay brought together a diverse array of stakeholders. It commemorated the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration, a landmark international agreement to promote gender equality.

This year's theme, "Accelerate Action for All Women and Girls: Rights, Equality, Empowerment," encouraged participants to consider the tremendous strides made in the advancement of women's rights while also recognizing the ongoing obstacles to real inclusivity.

NCPWD underscored its commitment to amplifying the voices and addressing the unique needs of women with disabilities, emphasizing their essential role in societal advancement.

The event was honored by the presence of H.E. the First Lady, Mama Rachel Ruto, whose impactful address resonated with the core values of inclusion and empowerment.

She was accompanied by the host, H.E. Gladys Wanga, and other renowned dignitaries, including Mama Ida Odinga.

The event provided a forum for reaffirming the group's commitment to advancing gender equality and guaranteeing that all women and girls, including those with disabilities, should have access to their full range of rights, equality, and empowerment.
