Narok County Governor Signs MMNR And Narok Spatial Plan
Narok county governor Patrick Ntutu has signed the Maasai Mara National Reserve (MMNR) Management Plan, Greater Mara Ecosystem, and the Narok spatial plan 2023-232 into law.
This is after the Narok county assembly has passed three documents into law by anonymously voting on Tuesday.
Speaking during the handing over of the report by the county assembly led by the speaker Davis Dikirr, Ntutu said that the proposals aim at promoting peaceful coexistence among all the inhabitants of the Mara while promoting sustainable solutions that will spur the growth of Maasai Mara resources.
“We have never planned to move people or demolish their houses around the Mara nor have we ever planned to ban grazing in the Mara.” Ntutu added
He further lauded the input of various stakeholders, including the local communities, conservation organizations, and other interested parties, and ensured that the report reflects the diverse interests, and concerns of all those who care about the future of the Maasai Mara National Reserve.
The governor praised the MCAs for their robust participation, engagement and their willingness to review the plans as well as all the residents for public participation.
Ntutu also reminded the residents that the enactment of MMNR plans is supported by the Wildlife Conservation & Management Act of (2013) and Physical and land use planning act (2019).
Ntutu said that the process of enacting the MMNR management plan started way back in 2007 and over 50 meetings that involved various stakeholders and environmental scientists have since taken place.
