MPs Induction Retreat Kicks Off

Members of the National Assembly are set to convene at a Nairobi hotel on Monday for a week-long induction retreat in a bid to be guided on house rules and Procedures as well as their roles.

The MPs were expected to arrive on Sunday evening according to the programme released by the Office of the Clerk.

The meeting which will be chaired by Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Wetangula will see the legislators on Monday taken through their roles for the electorates incorporated with the state of the economy and diplomacy.

Day two of the retreat will include a facilitator from Directorate of Legislative and Procedural Services who will enlighten the legislators on rules and procedures of the house.

The process will be crucial for the freshly elected legislators who will be equipped with knowledge on legislative processes i.e. how to sponsor bills, craft petitions and issue personal statements in the House.

“This retreat will be a great opportunity for you to thoroughly acquaint yourself with your mandate, parliamentary processes and secrets and tools that will give you a head start in serving your electorate. I encourage you to attend all these sessions,” National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula said during his acceptance speech.

Dr. Patrick Njoroge, the Central Bank of Kenya Governor will be in attendance to explain more on the current state of the economy and what is expected for the leaders to improve the situation.

Current loans owned by the government will be one of the top agendas to be discussed, the legislators will review the current laws and government borrowing.
