Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah took to Social media to express his frustration and disappointment on missing out next season’s Champions League football, following United’s 4-1 hammering of Chelsea.

United only needed a point at home against Chelsea to confirm their Champions League place and the result now means Liverpool will finish fifth and play in next season’s Europa League.

“We let you [fans] and ourselves down,” said Egypt international Salah.

‘‘We had everything we needed to make it to next year’s Champions League and we failed. We are Liverpool and qualifying to the competition is the bare minimum.’’

‘‘I am sorry but it’s too soon for an uplifting or optimistic post.”

Liverpool won seven of their past eight games in a late push for fourth place but, could not make up for their inconsistent form for much of the season.

The cryptic messages can however been dismissed as signs of an exit from the Egyptian as he signed a lucrative new three-year contract with Liverpool last summer.

The 2021/2022 Golden boot winner has scored 19 league goals this season, with six coming in 14 games before the 2022 World Cup and 13 in 23 games following the tournament.
