The Ministry of Education has opened a seven-day window for parents and learners to review and seek changes to Grade 9 placements following widespread concerns over the initial outcomes. The review period is set to begin on December 23, giving affected families an opportunity to address placement issues raised after the release of the results.

The move follows complaints from parents whose children were either placed in schools far from their preferred choices or experienced difficulties accessing placement details. Education officials acknowledged the concerns, noting that the review window is meant to correct errors and improve confidence in the placement process.

Basic Education Principal Secretary Julius Bitok confirmed that learners who are dissatisfied with their current placements will be allowed to adjust their school choices. He explained that the process will be conducted through learners’ current institutions, ensuring that revisions are handled in an orderly and verified manner.

Under the guidelines issued by the ministry, parents are required to channel their requests through junior school heads, who will submit the proposed changes via the official education management system. Any revisions will depend on the availability of vacancies in the preferred schools and the learner’s placement category.

The Ministry of Education has urged parents to act within the stipulated timeframe, emphasizing that placements will be finalized once the seven-day review period lapses. Officials have also reassured the public that the review exercise is intended to enhance fairness and transparency as the country transitions learners to the next phase of the competency-based education system.
