Marania Janet, Advocate for Disability Rights, Dies

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Monday announced the passing of Janet Marania Teyiaa, a prominent advocate for persons with disabilities and former Woman Representative for Kajiado County.
Gachagua, in a heartfelt message shared on his social media platforms, expressed deep sadness over Teyiaa's demise.
He highlighted her significant contributions to Kajiado County, particularly her tireless advocacy for the rights and welfare of people with disabilities.
He further recalled Teyiaa's impactful tenure in the 12th Parliament, where she served as the Woman Representative for Kajiado County, emphasizing her unwavering commitment to serving her constituents.
Teyiaa surpassed all odds by running for the position in 2017 and winning with 186,085 votes, despite opposition from residents who claimed it was taboo to elect a person with a disability. Her ODM opponent finished second with 104,486 votes.
