Mandera County Empowers 250 Persons With Disabilities
The Mandera County Administration has distributed assistive mobility kits and vocational tools to over 250 persons with disabilities in Mandera East.
The initiative aims at empowering and promoting PWDs' independence.
They received wheelchairs, crutches, and hearing aids to improve their physical mobility and sensory abilities.
In addition, the beneficiaries have been given tools for various trades, such as sewing machines and welding equipment. This comprehensive approach is intended to help them establish themselves as independent members of the community.
Sumeya Noor, the County Executive Committee member responsible for social and gender services, said that the initiative would liberate the recipients from confinement within their homes due to a lack of suitable mobility aids.
She further revealed that plans are underway to establish a dedicated resource center tailored to the needs of individuals with disabilities.
This Centre will serve as a focal point for addressing the affairs of persons with disabilities, providing a platform for their concerns to be addressed and resolved.
Noor emphasized the significance of supporting these marginalized groups, noting that they possess unique talents that, when nurtured, can uplift them from the grip of poverty.
The County Administration's commitment to their well-being is underscored by this initiative, which aims to transform their lives and integrate them more fully into society.
