Long Rains Begin Across The Country
The Kenya Meteorological Department has announced the onset of the long rainy season, expected to continue until the early weeks of June.
The rains, which commenced over the weekend, are anticipated to increase in intensity, with April marking the peak.
According to the Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) Director Dr. David Gikungu, climatic conditions that led to last year's above-average rainfall are still in place and could influence the intensity of precipitation this year.
Gikungu warned the public to prepare adequately to avert challenges associated with heavy rains like floods.
While issuing a weather forecast report, Director Gikungu said flash floods and flooding in cities and traditional flood-prone areas would be witnessed.
The above prediction has already been witnessed in parts of Nairobi where the heavy rains have killed at least 10 people as reported by Nairobi regional police commander Adamson Bungei.
The police boss said they had mobilized several emergency service providers to respond to various places and help in attending to those affected.
Meanwhile, farmers have been urged to commence with their planting.
