Lawyer Paul Gicheru was found dead on Monday night at his home in Karen.

The cause of his death remains unclear. Gicheru was 50 years old.

The lawyer was facing charges of interference with witnesses at the International Criminal Court (ICC).

He was accused of bribing and intimidating witnesses in the dismissed International Criminal Court (ICC) case against President William Ruto.

In 2015, a warrant of arrest was issued against Gicheru and another Kenyan, Philip Kipkoech Bett which led to his surrender to authorities of Netherlands on 2nd November 2020.

His first court appearance was on November 6, 2020.

In July 15, 2021 charges against him were confirmed with the Chamber noting that lawyer Gicheru worked together with others to undermine the cases against William Ruto and journalist Joshua Sang.

He pleaded not guilty against the charges.

The Prosecution presented its evidence on 29 March 2022 and the defense announced on 25 April 2022 that it will not present any evidence.

The chamber had not pronounced its decision on the conviction of Gicheru.

President Ruto and Journalist Sang’s cases were terminated in April 2016 after they were found to have no case to answer.
