Kshs 70m spent to organize 59th Madaraka Day celebrations.

The Government has spent an estimated Kshs 70 million to organize the 59th Madaraka Day celebrations at Uhuru Gardens, as revealed by Principal Secretary Interior Karanja Kibicho.

The PS who spoke in an interview just before the commencement of the celebrations said the amount was used to re-form and neaten up Uhuru Gardens and also pay for the service of music and art as performed by the artists.

The PS says the amount is even less as most of the reforms including infrastructural project was done by the Kenya Defence Forces.

He said having been in charge of rehabilitating Uhuru Gardens, the military would take center stage and they didn’t disappoint, showcasing their prowess in an elegant display in the final national event presided over by President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Amongst the 30 000 guest invited included; Sierra Leone President Julius Maada Bio, Deputy President William Ruto, ODM Party Leader Raila Odinga, Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, ANC party leader Musalia Mudavadi among others.

The public was also directed to have their mask on as a measure against Covid-19.
