The Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) and the Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA) for 2025 officially commenced today, with the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) declaring that all preparations are finalized for a transparent and smooth exercise.
The national assessments were officially marked this Monday morning with the opening of exam papers at the Kibra Deputy County Commissioner’s (DCC) office.
Education Principal Secretary, Prof. Julius Bitok, oversaw the exercise, signaling the start of a critical assessment phase under the Competency-Based Education (CBE) system.
Speaking during the launch, Prof. Bitok confirmed that the Ministry of Education is fully prepared for the assessments, which run concurrently with the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).
He further assured all stakeholders that the government has released all necessary funds to facilitate the smooth running of the exams across the country, leaving no room for logistical excuses.
In a major shift from the past, learners taking the KPSEA and KJSEA will not be issued formal certificates, marking a clear departure from the tradition of the phased-out KCPE examination system.
Instead of a certificate, students will receive result slips that provide detailed reports on their performance in each subject area.
This change aligns with the CBE system's emphasis on a different approach to evaluation, focusing on a comprehensive assessment of competencies rather than a singular, final certification. The new slips aim to give a more holistic view of the learner's progress and acquired skills.
