Kipyegon nominated for Women's World Athlete of The Year
World 1500m champion Faith Kipyegon has been nominated for the Women’s World Athlete of the Year.
Kipyegon won the 1,500m race at the World Championships in Oregon clocking 3:52.96 and the final of the Diamond League meeting in Zurich where she timed 4:00.44.
Kipyegon dominated the Monaco Diamond League running a record of 3:50.37 and got away with the Prefontaine Classic as well in Oregon timing 3:53.23.
Other athletes selected include the Jamaican duo of Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce and Shericka Jackson, Peru’s Kimberly Garcia, Ukraine’s Yaroslava Mahuchikh, USA’s Sydney McLaughlin, Venezuela’s Yulimar Rojas, Bahamian Shaunae Miller-Uibo, USA’s Chase Ealey and Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan.
This week marks the opening of the voting process for the World Athletes of the Year and it will be a three-way process.
The World Athletics Council and the World Athletics Family will cast their votes by email, while fans can vote online via the World Athletics social media platforms.
The individual graphics for each nominee will be posted on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube this week; a 'like' on Facebook, Instagram and YouTube or a retweet on Twitter will count as one vote.
The World Athletics Council’s vote will count for 50 percent of the result, while the World Athletics Family’s votes and the public votes will each count for 25 percent of the final result.
Voting for the World Athletes of the Year closes at midnight on Monday, October 31st and the women finalists will be announced by World Athletics.
