Faith Kipyegon and Beatrice Chebet Trade Events in Diamond League Hunt for More Records.

Kenyan middle- and long-distance stars Faith Kipyegon and Beatrice Chebet are set to switch events at the upcoming Diamond League meeting in Silesia, each chasing new milestones after a season already full of historic performances.

Kipyegon, the reigning Olympic and world champion, recently broke her own 1500m world record at the Prefontaine Classic in Eugene. Now she’s shifting gears to the 3000m, a distance where she has yet to fully test her limits. With her consistency, tactical brilliance, and finishing speed, many see her as a strong candidate to challenge the world record.

To support her attempt, she will have pace-making assistance from Sage Hurta-Klecker, who is tasked with keeping a steady rhythm through the first 1200 meters. Among her main rivals in the field will be Jessica Hull, the Olympic 1500m silver medallist, who has also shown strong form this season. Kipyegon’s decision signals her intent not only to dominate her trademark 1500m but also to stamp authority across longer distances.

Meanwhile, Beatrice Chebet, who has taken the long-distance scene by storm, is stepping down to the 1500m. Chebet’s profile soared earlier this year when she shattered the 5000m world record in Paris, a mark once thought untouchable. She also claimed double Olympic gold in Paris 2024, cementing her reputation as one of the most versatile runners in history.

Chebet has already run impressively over shorter distances, setting an African record in the 5000m at the Doha Diamond League. Testing herself in the 1500m gives her a chance to show range like Kipyegon’s—blending endurance with blistering speed. The matchup between the two Kenyans, even across different distances, highlights their shared ambition to expand their dominance.

For fans, the event adds another layer to Kenya’s deep legacy in middle- and long-distance running. Both Kipyegon and Chebet are redefining what’s possible, not content with owning a single distance. By trading places—Kipyegon moving up and Chebet moving down—they are not just chasing records but also reshaping the narrative of women’s athletics.

The Silesia Diamond League promises to be a spectacle: a stage where two of the sport’s brightest stars test new waters, with the world watching to see if another record falls.
