FC Barcelona have officially confirmed the signing of Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United in a deal worth £69.3 million, with the England international signing a contract that will keep him at Camp Nou until 2031.

The transfer was finalised after several weeks of negotiations between both clubs, with Barcelona accelerating talks in recent days to complete the move ahead of the summer international calendar. Gordon underwent medical examinations in Spain before signing the long-term agreement in the presence of club officials and sporting director Deco.

Barcelona manager Hansi Flick is understood to have strongly supported the transfer as the club looks to strengthen its attacking options ahead of the new season. Gordon is expected to play primarily on the left wing but can also operate across multiple attacking positions because of his pace, pressing intensity and direct style of play.

The 25-year-old joins Barcelona after an impressive spell at Newcastle where he established himself as one of the Premier League’s most dangerous attacking players. Last season, Gordon delivered strong performances domestically and in European competition, attracting interest from several major clubs across Europe.

Barcelona reportedly prioritised Gordon over several alternative targets due to his age profile, tactical versatility and ability to fit into Flick’s high-intensity system. Club executives also viewed the deal as financially manageable despite ongoing pressure surrounding Barcelona’s wage structure and financial regulations.

For Newcastle, the sale represents one of the most expensive outgoing transfers in the club’s history and provides additional financial flexibility ahead of the summer transfer window. The Premier League side is now expected to reinvest part of the transfer fee into strengthening several positions within the squad.

The deal is also expected to generate financial benefits for Everton FC, Gordon’s former club, which reportedly retained a sell-on clause when the winger moved to Newcastle earlier in his career.

Gordon is now expected to be officially unveiled by Barcelona supporters at Camp Nou before linking up with the England national football team ahead of preparations for the upcoming international fixtures and the 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign.

I wanted to speak Spanish because as a kid I believed I would play for Barça.

I had a physio at Newcastle who was Spanish and we spoke Spanish every day. I told him I wanted to play for Barça one day, that’s why I speak some Spanish”
