Beatrice Chebet made history by becoming the first woman ever to run under 14 minutes in the 5000m, clocking 13:58.06. Meanwhile, Faith Kipyegon broke her world record in the 1500m, further cementing her legendary status in middle-distance athletics. President William Ruto led the country in celebrating the champions.
"We salute Faith Kipyegon and Beatrice Chebet for setting new world records. Your remarkable achievements have once again lifted Kenya’s flag high and filled the nation with pride." Said the president in a statement.
He described Kipyegon's performance as a "breathtaking and inspirational run" and called Chebet’s feat a well-deserved victory that reaffirms Kenya’s dominance on the global stage.
Opposition leader and statesman Raila Odinga also shared his admiration through official social media platforms. He praised the young stars for making Kenya proud.
"Congratulations to Faith Kipyegon and Beatrice Chebet for the new world records. The country is proud of your efforts." Raila said in a statement.
The Diamond League meet also saw Agnes Jebet claim second place in the 5000m, marking a strong Kenyan presence on the podium.
