Kenya's national para-athletes have returned home to a heroes' welcome following a spectacular, medal-winning performance at the World Abilitysport Games in Mersin, Turkey.

The men’s and women’s teams for air para-badminton and para powerlifting secured multiple medals, powerfully reinforcing Kenya’s status as a growing force in adaptive sports on the international stage.

Their successful campaign highlighted the extraordinary talent and dedication of these athletes, who competed in the Games' events, including the inaugural World Abilitysport Beach Para Powerlifting World Cup.

The Para Powerlifting team delivered a commendable performance, finishing an impressive second place overall in the competition.

Their substantial medal haul included a total of four medals: one gold medal, one silver medal, and two bronze medals.

The Air Para-Badminton team also soared, clinching gold in both events they contested, securing the top spot in the Mixed Triples and the Mixed Triples Relays.

The victory was especially significant for powerlifting gold medalist Joshua Otieno Obende, who shared his overwhelming joy after his debut international triumph.

Ability Sports Kenya Air Para-Badminton national team coach, John Kirera, celebrated the achievement, which builds on his team’s recent successes.

The federation specifically acknowledged the crucial role played by the government in facilitating the team’s journey to the global stage, extending appreciation to the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Creative Economy, and Sports, and specifically to H.E. Salim Mvurya and Elijah Mwangi for their support.
