Record holder Simon Cherono Kibai guided Kenya to a podium sweep, as he defended his men’s 10,000m title at the ongoing 24th Summer Deaflympics Games in Caxias Do Sul, Brazil on Sunday.

Kibai led compatriots Peter Toroitich and David Kipkogei to a podium finish for the second time, a replica of the 2017 Deaflympics performance in Samsun Turkey, where Kibai led Daniel Kitum and Peter Toroitich in sweeping all the medals in the discipline.

Kibai will be hoping to complete a double when he takes it to the track for the men’s 5000m final.

Meanwhile Kelvin Kipkogei threw 51.30m to win bronze in men’s javelin, with other notable wins coming in the mixed 4x400m relay, where the quartet of George Waweru, Beryl Wamira, Linnet Nanjala and Isaac Atima won silver.

The positive results have pushed Kenya upwards on the medal table from 23rd position to 16th with a total of eight medals, three bronze, four silver and one gold.
