The Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) theory examinations officially commenced on Monday, marking the start of a critical academic period for over 990,000 candidates registered nationwide this year.
The launch of the exercise was spearheaded by Principal Secretary (PS) of the Ministry of Education, Julius Kibet Bitok, in Nairobi, while the Education Cabinet Secretary (CS) Julius Migos presided over the papers' launch in Kwale County.
The Ministry of Education has scaled up security measures at all centres hosting the examinations to safeguard the integrity of the process.
In a stern warning issued during the Kwale launch, CS Migos emphasized the Ministry's zero-tolerance policy for any attempt to compromise the national exams, underscoring the government's commitment to delivering a credible exercise.
Meanwhile, PS Bitok addressed the severe logistical challenge posed by the recent deadly landslides in Elgeyo Marakwet County, a disaster that tragically claimed the lives of 14 students.
Despite the blocked road networks, the PS assured the public that all candidates would receive their examination materials on time, confirming that a special arrangement is in place for the disaster-hit region, with the government utilizing an airlift operation to deliver the papers.
In a separate update, the Education Cabinet Secretary provided a timeline for the release of results for the recently concluded national assessments.
CS Migos announced that the results for the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) will be finalized and ready for release within the next two weeks.
