The Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education results for 2025 have been officially released, marking a key moment for nearly one million candidates who sat the national examinations. The announcement was made by the Ministry of Education in collaboration with the Kenya National Examinations Council.

According to official data, a total of 993,226 candidates sat the 2025 KCSE examinations, reflecting a slight increase compared to the previous year. The rise has been attributed to improved transition rates from junior secondary to senior secondary school.

The number of candidates who attained the top grade of A plain stood at 1,932. This represented a marginal improvement in high-end performance and continued a gradual upward trend observed over recent years.

University qualification levels also showed growth. About 270,715 candidates scored grade C+ and above, making them eligible for direct entry into public universities under the current placement criteria.

More than half of the candidates, approximately 507,131, attained a grade of C- minus and above. Education officials noted that this category opens pathways to various post-secondary institutions, including teacher training colleges and diploma programmes.

Overall pass rates remained stable, with 634,082 candidates scoring D+ and above. This threshold allows access to technical and vocational education and training institutions across the country.

Subject performance analysis indicated notable improvement in Mathematics, which emerged as one of the best-performing subjects under the revised grading framework. Languages and humanities recorded mixed outcomes across different regions.

Gender analysis showed varied performance trends. Female candidates performed better in several language-based subjects, while male candidates recorded stronger outcomes in a number of science and technical subjects.

The results also highlighted disparities across school categories. National and extra-county schools accounted for a significant share of top grades, while county and sub-county schools continued to face performance challenges.

Examination integrity remained a focus, with 1,180 candidates having their results cancelled due to confirmed examination irregularities. Authorities said enforcement measures were strengthened to safeguard the credibility of the exams.

Following the release, candidates can access their results through the KNEC online portal using their index numbers and examination details. Schools have also been issued with official result slips.

The Ministry of Education stated that the 2025 KCSE outcomes point to modest overall improvement and reaffirmed its commitment to addressing regional and institutional disparities as the transition to higher education and training begins.
