Karan feted 2022 Motorsports Personality of the Year.

Karan Patel was finally awarded for having a great season in racing, where he was named the 2022 Kenya Motorsport Personality of the Year.

Karan produced one of the best drives in 2022, winning four out of six rallies in Rwanda, Tanzania, Zambia and Kenya (Equator Rally), coming in second overall behind Leroy Gomes of Zambia.

Karan went ahead to finally seal his first Kenya National Rally Championship title in what was a homestretch battle with Jasmeet Chana in Mwatate’s Teita Sisal estates.

In total, the country’s first Red Bull athlete won 10 rallies in Kenya and across Africa.

“It’s such a great feeling winning the personality award after a great season of motorsport. It hasn’t sunk in yet. We will continue aiming higher and hopefully win the elusive African title.” Karan said.

Kenya Motor Sport Federation President Phineas Kimathi, said: “It is an honour that this 2022 edition was a truly successful season in which the Safari was voted the most followed WRC event on the FIA global series.

‘’Tonight, we honour the stars of our sport – our National Champions, and I would also like to thank all the sponsors and teams who provide such strong support.” He added.

According to Kimathi, the new ASN President Award introduced will now become a permanent feature of the annual awards.

Those awarded in this first ASN President category were multiple Rally Raid bike and car champion Ross Field, who’s a fan of demo eye of horus, legendary Safari photographer Anwar Sidi, five times Safari Rally winners Carl Tundo and Tim Jessop.
