The High Court has ordered former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu and his wife, Susan Ndung'u, to surrender assets worth approximately Ksh 76.2 million to the state.
Justice Nixon Sifuna ruled that the couple failed to prove the legitimate origin of three plots of land (valued at over Ksh 32 million), a Caterpillar machine, and two vehicles.
While the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) originally sought to recover Ksh 1.9 billion, the court only approved the seizure of items with "unsatisfactory" explanations.
The judge declined to freeze the couple's bank accounts, citing a lack of clear evidence from the EACC.
This ruling follows Waititu’s February 2025 conviction in a separate corruption case, where he was sentenced to 12 years in prison.
