Two Suspects Arrested For Impersonating EACC Officers In Ksh 20,000 Extortion Scheme

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission has arrested two suspects accused of impersonating its officers and extorting money from members of the public in a sting operation conducted in Nairobi.
The suspects, identified as Annastacia Mueni Kavemba and Stephen Muleu Ngati, are currently being held at the Integrity Centre as investigations into the incident continue.
According to EACC, the arrests were triggered by a complaint from a member of the public who reported being approached by individuals posing as commission officials.
Preliminary investigations revealed that one of the suspects contacted the complainant and falsely claimed that they were under investigation for corruption-related offences.
The suspects allegedly demanded money in exchange for “facilitating” the closure of the fictitious case and shielding the complainant from legal consequences.
EACC officers then mounted a sting operation that led to the arrest of the duo immediately after they received Ksh 20,000 from the victim.
The commission has warned the public against falling prey to such schemes, emphasizing that its officers do not solicit bribes or payments to influence investigations.
Authorities say the suspects are expected to face charges related to impersonation and extortion as the agency intensifies its crackdown on fraudsters exploiting the commission’s name.
