The Chief Executive Officer of the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), Abdi Ahmed Mohamud, has been elected President of the Eastern Africa Association of Anti-Corruption Authorities (EAAACA).

His election took place during the association’s 16th Annual General Meeting held in Nairobi from 20 to 24 April 2026, bringing together anti-corruption agencies from across the Eastern Africa region.

He officially assumed the leadership role at the conclusion of the meeting, taking charge of coordination among member anti-corruption bodies.

EAAACA is a regional platform that unites anti-corruption authorities from East African countries, including Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, South Sudan, Ethiopia, and Djibouti.

The Nairobi meeting focused on strengthening regional cooperation in fighting corruption, particularly cross-border financial crimes and illicit wealth flows.

Member agencies also discussed improving intelligence sharing systems to enhance joint investigations and enforcement efforts.

The agenda further emphasized the need for stronger collaboration in recovering stolen public assets across jurisdictions.

Mohamud’s election places him at the centre of regional efforts to coordinate anti-corruption strategies and institutional cooperation.

He is expected to lead initiatives aimed at harmonizing legal and operational frameworks among member states.

His leadership comes at a time when corruption networks are increasingly viewed as transnational, requiring coordinated responses.

The new EAAACA leadership is expected to prioritize joint operations and capacity building among member authorities.

This development strengthens Kenya’s influence within regional anti-corruption structures through Mohamud’s dual role at the EACC and EAAACA.
