The National Assembly has given Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki and his ICT counterpart Eliud Owalo seven days to provide answers on the world coin cryptocurrency.

The Members of parliament want the two to explain how the company was registered, whether the data collected amounted to a breach of security, and what measures have been put in place to guarantee the safety of data mining by the firm.

The two leaders appeared before the parliament on Wednesday to give the answer to lawmakers’ concerns over the illegal data mining activities by the foreign firm.

Speaker of the national assembly Moses Wetangula directed the office of the data protection commissioner to be exempted from the multi-agency probe alluding that it could be compromised.

The MPs are concerned that the company may have collected sensitive data from Kenyans without their knowledge or consent. They are also worried that the data could be used for criminal purposes.

The Interior CS and the ICT CS have assured the MPs that they are investigating the matter and that they will take appropriate action if any laws have been broken.

The MPs have also asked the government to ban the company from operating in the country.

The government is expected to make a decision on the matter soon.

About Worldcoin

Worldcoin is a cryptocurrency project that aims to create a global identity system that uses iris scans to verify people’s identities.

Worldcoin users will be able to earn Worldcoin tokens. The company claims that this data will be used to create a decentralized identity system that is more secure and private than traditional identity systems.

However, there have been concerns about the privacy implications of Worldcoin. Critics say that the company is collecting too much data about people and that the data could be used for identity theft or other forms of fraud.

The Worldcoin project has also been criticized for its lack of transparency.
