Severe flooding has disrupted daily life in Taveta Constituency after heavy rains caused rivers and seasonal streams to overflow, cutting off several villages and leaving residents stranded.
Large stretches of farmland have been submerged, destroying crops and threatening the livelihoods of small-scale farmers who depend on the fertile plains for food and income. Many fields remain underwater, raising fears of significant harvest losses.
Transport has been heavily affected as floodwaters swept across key feeder roads and river crossings. Motorists and boda boda operators are struggling to move between villages, slowing trade and access to markets.
The damaged and flooded roads have also limited the movement of farm produce, with some farmers unable to transport vegetables and fruits to nearby towns.
Education has been disrupted in several areas as pupils and teachers find it difficult to reach schools due to flooded paths and impassable routes.
Church services and other community gatherings have also been affected, with some places of worship surrounded by water or inaccessible to congregants.
Residents say the situation could worsen if heavy rains continue, warning that prolonged flooding may cause further crop destruction and deepen economic hardship in the constituency.
