FIFA will allow countries to select up to 26 players for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, increasing the maximum squad size by three for the November 21-December 18 tournament.

The need to increase the squad number comes at a time of need to retain additional flexibility due to the unique timing” of this year’s competition, which will interrupt the European club season.

The space for the 26 includes 11 team officials of which must be a team doctor and 15 players substitutes in the game.

UEFA also adopted the changes last year meeting the need from coaches who feared that that they would lose players because of the Coronavirus. The squad number has been increased from 23 to 26 an addition of three participants.

Just to keep you update that the similar changes were also done in 2018 when FIFA announced that the initial squad selection for the FIFA World Cup has increased from 30 to 35, an announcement which was made by the organizing Committee for FIFA Competitions, chaired by UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin, in Zurich
