Education Cabinet Secretary (CS) Ezekiel Machogu has rubbished a media report on junior secondary school JSS) learners’ reporting saying it was exaggerated.

Speaking in Kisii during an inspection of schools, some hosting the junior secondary school program, the CS disclosed a total of 201,000 learners had since reported and not 500,000 as claimed by media.

According to him,15,640  grade seven learners were yet to be received at their respective schools but were expected to turn up soon.

The government had allocated Ksh. 15,042 per learner in the junior secondary schools while the primary section got Ksh. 1.042.

Senior secondary schools’ capitation allocation stood at Ksh. 22,244 per student.

Machogu’s itinerary came amid complaints from critics of the competence-based curriculum claiming the new education system was yet to take- off in junior secondary schools as was expected.
