Counties Issue Strike Notice
County governors have issued a 14 days strike notice if the money owed by the national government will not be released.
In a press release on Monday, Council of Governors chairperson Ann Waiguru revealed that the National Treasury has not disbursed a total of sh94.35 billion owed to the counties for the last four months.
"We, therefore, call upon the CS National Treasury to immediately release the Sh 94.35 billion owed to County Governments without any further delay," said Waiguru.
The governors revealed that they are unable to pay county staff salaries adding that operations in the devolved units are slowly shutting down.
According to the CoG chair, the treasury owes all 47 counties Ksh.31.45 billion for February, Ksh.29.6 billion for March, and Ksh.33.3 billion for April.
COG Chairperson Anne Waiguru notified the Kenyan citizens that County Governments will not deliver services as expected should the National Treasury fail to disburse the funds.
“We also notify the citizens of Kenya that due to the failure of the National Treasury to disburse the funds, County Governments will not be able to deliver services as expected,” added Waiguru.
At the same time, the county bosses decried the move by the Senate on the Division of Revenue Bill, 2023, where they rejected an amendment that would have seen the devolved units get a Ksh.407 billion equitable share in the 2003/24 financial year.
