Kenya kicked off their 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) campaign with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over DR Congo at Kasarani Stadium. The only goal of the match came in first-half stoppage time when A. Odhiambo converted from close range after an assist by D. Sakwa, giving the home side a crucial lead just before the break.
The match saw plenty of physical battles, with yellow cards handed to both sides, including Kenya’s M. Kibwage and M. Omondi, and DR Congo’s O. Ndombele and M. Katumbwe. DR Congo thought they had taken an early lead through J. Kitambala in the 6th minute, but the goal was disallowed.
The win puts Kenya top of Group A with three points, while DR Congo start their campaign empty-handed as they aim to bounce back in their next fixture.
