Harambee Stars goalkeeper Brian Bwire has completed a move to South African Premier Soccer League side Chippa United after departing Polokwane City, marking a fresh chapter in the Kenyan international’s career.
Bwire joins the Eastern Cape-based club ahead of the 2026/27 season following a difficult exit from Polokwane, where his opportunities became limited during the closing stages of the previous campaign. Reports from South African media indicate that the transfer was completed on a free move after his contract situation at Polokwane came to an end.
The 26-year-old had initially made a promising start in South African football after securing his move from Kenya in 2024. However, his stay at Polokwane became complicated after negotiations over a contract extension reportedly failed earlier this year.
Following the contract disagreement, Bwire found himself excluded from regular first-team football and spent several months away from competitive action. Despite that setback, his earlier performances had already attracted attention across the league.
During his spell at Polokwane City, Bwire managed to establish himself as a dependable option in goal and earned recognition for his shot-stopping ability and composure under pressure.
Chippa United identified the Kenyan international as part of their rebuilding plans ahead of the new campaign. The club moved into the market after changes in the goalkeeping department created an opportunity for a new arrival.
Bwire is expected to fill the gap left by Nigerian international Stanley Nwabali, whose departure earlier this year forced Chippa to seek a reliable replacement with top-flight experience.
