President William Ruto hosted FKF Premier League champions Gor Mahia at State House, Nairobi, where he led national celebrations following the club’s 2025/26 title victory and reaffirmed government commitment to strengthening sports development across the country.

In his opening remarks, the President framed the occasion as a celebration that went beyond football, emphasizing the values of excellence, resilience, consistency and teamwork as central to Gor Mahia’s achievement and Kenya’s sporting identity.

Ruto extended congratulations to the club for securing a record-extending 22nd league title, describing the milestone as a defining achievement that reinforces Gor Mahia’s position as the most successful football club in Kenyan history.

He said the victory reaffirmed the club’s long-standing status as a pillar of Kenyan football excellence, noting that its sustained success over decades reflects a deeply rooted winning culture and strong institutional identity.

The President added that the team’s performance throughout the season demonstrated discipline and unity, highlighting how consistency and collective effort enabled them to finish at the summit of Kenyan football.

He also referenced individual recognition within the squad, pointing to awards such as Coach of the Season and Most Valuable Player, saying these accolades reflect the professionalism and quality embedded within the club.

Ruto noted that the team’s journey to reclaim the title after losing it the previous season demonstrated resilience and determination, adding that the response showed strong belief and a winning mentality.

He further highlighted key matches, including the Mashemeji Derby, as decisive moments that shaped the season and reinforced Gor Mahia’s ability to perform under pressure.

Beyond domestic success, the President praised the club’s contribution to national football development, saying Gor Mahia continues to produce a significant number of players for Harambee Stars and strengthen the national squad.

He said the club’s influence extends beyond trophies, describing it as a critical pillar in Kenyan football and a symbol of sporting excellence that inspires young athletes across the country.

Ruto commended the players, technical bench and management for their roles in strengthening one of Africa’s most prominent football institutions, while also appreciating the unwavering support of fans.

He acknowledged sponsors, partners and the Football Kenya Federation for their role in ensuring a competitive season, saying their involvement remains essential to the growth of Kenyan football.

Looking ahead, the President expressed confidence that Gor Mahia would represent Kenya with pride in the CAF Champions League, noting that the club carries the hopes of the nation into continental competition.

He also reflected on the club’s historic 1987 Africa Cup Winners’ Cup triumph, describing it as a landmark achievement that continues to inspire Kenyan football and demonstrates what is possible at the continental level.

Ruto assured continued government support for sports development, stating that investment in infrastructure, grassroots talent and governance reforms remains a central priority for the administration.

He announced that approximately 28 stadium projects are expected to be completed within a year, including facilities in Garissa, Wajir, Mombasa, Mandera, Kisumu, Kakamega and other regions across the country.

According to the President, the new stadiums are being developed as integrated commercial ecosystems, incorporating training facilities, gyms, restaurants, shops, ICT hubs and conference centres to ensure year-round economic activity.

He explained that the approach is designed to transform sports infrastructure into sustainable economic hubs that support athletes, generate employment and enhance community engagement.

Ruto concluded by confirming financial support for Gor Mahia and encouraging broader sponsorship for Kenyan sports, stating that the country’s young talent across football, athletics, cricket and other disciplines deserves sustained investment and national support.
