Gor Mahia have been crowned champions of the 2025/26 SportPesa Premier League after AFC Leopards suffered a shock 2-1 defeat to APS Bomet, sealing K’Ogalo’s record-extending 22nd league title with two games to spare.

The decisive moment came on Sunday when AFC Leopards, who needed a win to keep their slim title hopes alive, were beaten at Kericho Green Stadium by league newcomers APS Bomet in a result that confirmed Gor Mahia as champions without kicking a ball.

Leopards entered the fixture under pressure, knowing that anything less than victory would hand Gor Mahia a clear advantage in the title race, but they failed to deliver in a match that ultimately defined the season.

APS Bomet struck twice in a strong second-half display, with forward Philip Wasai scoring a brace to put the hosts in control and silence Leopards’ supporters.

Although AFC Leopards managed a late consolation goal, it was not enough to change the outcome, as APS Bomet held on to secure a famous victory in front of their home fans.

The result meant Gor Mahia’s points tally became unassailable, with the Nairobi giants sitting comfortably at the top of the table and beyond the reach of their closest challengers.

Even though Gor Mahia were not in action due to fixture scheduling issues involving a postponed match against Mara Sugar, results elsewhere ensured they could no longer be caught.

The Sports Disputes Tribunal had earlier halted Gor Mahia’s fixture over a venue dispute, leaving them waiting on results from their rivals to determine the title outcome.

AFC Leopards’ defeat also mathematically confirmed that they could not bridge the gap, handing Gor Mahia another league crown in dramatic fashion.

The victory marks Gor Mahia’s 22nd top-flight league title, strengthening their status as the most successful club in Kenyan football history.

It also represents a return to dominance after they lost the previous season’s crown to Kenya Police FC, restoring pride at the club.

Fans of K’Ogalo erupted in celebrations across Nairobi and other parts of the country as news of the Leopards’ defeat spread, triggering early title celebrations.

For AFC Leopards, the result extends their long wait for a league title that dates back to 1998, continuing a frustrating drought despite several close campaigns in recent years.

APS Bomet, meanwhile, earned widespread praise for their performance, with their victory also boosting their standing in their debut top-flight season.

With the title now settled, Gor Mahia are expected to receive a guard of honour in their remaining fixtures as they complete the season as champions.

The club will also represent Kenya in the CAF Champions League next season, aiming to carry their domestic success onto the continental stage.
