Narrating his ordeal at the hands of the police during a three-day detention, Embakasi East MP, Babu Owino, shared a video on his social media platforms, detailing his dramatic arrest at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA). He recounted being handcuffed and blindfolded after allegedly being abducted, then forced into the boot of a waiting Subaru.

Taken to an undisclosed location, Babu found himself in solitary confinement until his family traced him to Wang’uru police station in Mwea, Kirinyaga County.

During his three-day detention, he expressed distress at not being given food, being denied access to his family and legal representation, and having no opportunity to bathe or drink water – a treatment he deemed inhumane.

“For three days I was not given food, no access to my family, no access to my legal representation, I did not take a bath, I did not take water, and that was a very inhumane treatment accorded to me,” the MP stated.

Babu questioned how a common citizen would be treated if an elected official like himself could be subjected to such treatment. He criticized the Kenya Kwanza administration for their alleged mistreatment, asserting that his sole “mistake” was advocating for the welfare of Kenyans.

Unyielding in his fight for the people, Babu emphasized that he will continue to champion their interests, even if it costs him his life. He stressed that his mission to fight for a better Kenya would only be fueled by the injustice he experienced, particularly concerning the unbearable cost of living for ordinary citizens.

“I’m a messenger, you can kill the messenger but you will never kill the message. If fighting for Kenyans will cost me my life, so be it. Since I was a student leader, I was fighting for the interests of Kenyans and I will continue fighting for them,” he asserted.

Voicing his concerns over the controversial Finance Act 2023, which proposes additional taxes on Kenyans, Babu sternly warned President Ruto that implementing such measures could lead to his administration’s downfall. For the MP, a true leader ensures that the people do not suffer, and he remains resolute in fighting for a fairer and more prosperous future for all Kenyans.
