Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta after Bournemouth scored the second goal

Arsenal suffered a shock 2–1 defeat to AFC Bournemouth at the Emirates Stadium in a Premier League clash that left fans disappointed as the visitors produced a disciplined and clinical performance.

The match began with Arsenal dominating possession early on, pushing Bournemouth deep into their half as they looked to impose control in front of their home supporters.

However, Bournemouth struck first against the run of play when they capitalised on a defensive lapse, with young forward Eli Junior Kroupi finishing clinically to give the visitors a 1–0 lead.

Arsenal responded with increased attacking pressure, moving the ball quickly through midfield and creating several half-chances, but Bournemouth’s defensive structure remained compact and well-organised.

The Gunners’ persistence paid off in the first half when they were awarded a penalty after a handball incident inside the box, allowing Viktor Gyökeres to step up and calmly convert the equaliser.

Despite levelling the score at 1–1, Arsenal struggled to maintain momentum, with Bournemouth continuing to threaten on the counterattack whenever they regained possession.

The second half saw Arsenal increase their intensity, but clear-cut opportunities were limited as Bournemouth’s back line held firm under sustained pressure.

Bournemouth then delivered a decisive blow in the 74th minute, with Alex Scott finishing off a well-constructed team move to restore their lead at 2–1.

The goal sparked frustration among Arsenal players and supporters, as defensive gaps once again proved costly at a crucial stage of the match.

Arsenal pushed forward in search of a second equaliser, introducing attacking substitutes and committing numbers forward in the final stages.

However, Bournemouth remained disciplined, slowing the tempo and managing the closing minutes effectively to frustrate the home side.

Late Arsenal pressure failed to produce a breakthrough, with Bournemouth holding on through added time to secure a memorable away victory.

The result represents a significant setback for Arsenal in the Premier League title race, while Bournemouth celebrate a strong statement win against one of the league’s top sides.

Mikel Arteta: “Disappointing. It's a big punch in the face and it's about how we react now. They (Bournemouth) are a team who haven't lost for 11 games for a reason, they did a lot right. We were far from efficent.

“The first chance they had to attack the box, it's a deflection, a bad defending action and it's a goal. That's something we have to recover from. The second half you expect a different game. We did a lot of strange things today.

“We have been very consistent. This can happen, this is football.”
