A fire broke out at Ofafa Jericho High School in Makadara Constituency, Nairobi, destroying a student dormitory in a late-day incident that prompted a rapid emergency response from fire and security services.
The blaze reportedly spread quickly through the boarding section, heavily damaging the affected dormitory before firefighters brought it under control. The cause of the fire has not yet been established, with investigations currently underway.
Students were evacuated from the affected area, with reports indicating that some suffered smoke inhalation while attempting to assist in early containment efforts and salvage personal belongings. Those affected were taken to nearby medical facilities for treatment.
Firefighters from Nairobi County managed to prevent the flames from spreading to other buildings within the school compound, though the dormitory was largely reduced to ruins.
No fatalities had been confirmed at the time of reporting. Authorities are expected to conduct a full assessment to determine the extent of the damage and establish the origin of the fire.
Security officers have since secured the scene as forensic teams begin investigations into the incident. School officials have urged calm as they coordinate recovery efforts and student welfare measures following the blaze.
