Anga Cinema Collaborates With Signs TV In a Special Screening For The Deaf
Taking a pioneering step to enhance inclusivity within the entertainment industry, Anga Cinemas collaborated with Signs TV and several prominent organizations to host a special screening of "Creed 3," featuring open captions.
The collaborative effort, supported by the Kenya Film Commission, Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry(KNCCI), Centre for Sign Language Interpretation Services(CESLIS), Okada Media, and the Kenya Film Classification Board, demonstrated a commitment to creating a more inclusive environment in the world of cinema and beyond.
The special screening garnered attention not only from the deaf community but also from various dignitaries and influential figures in the Kenyan entertainment scene.
Ezekiel Mutua, the CEO of Music Copyright of Kenya (MCSK) addressed the audience with an impassioned speech on the importance of including the deaf in the entertainment industry. Against the backdrop of recent discussions surrounding the regulation of the popular social media app TikTok, Mutua shared his perspective on the need for responsible regulation rather than outright bans.
Ezekiel Onyango, Founder of the Stammering Society of Kenya, echoed Mutua's sentiments, pledging to work towards inclusivity in the industry. He emphasized the collective responsibility to progress together, ensuring no one is left behind on this journey towards a more inclusive and diverse entertainment landscape.
During the event, Minnie Mbesa, the Head of Sign Language Interpreters at Signs TV, took the stage to enlighten the audience about the innovative products offered by Signs Media Limited. These products include Signs TV, assistALL app, and Uhai Festival.
