The National Council for Persons with Disabilities has partnered with the National Youth Service to ensure youth with disabilities are fully included in the upcoming nationwide NYS recruitment exercise scheduled to begin next week.
In a joint initiative, the council is mobilising young persons with disabilities across the country to participate in the recruitment exercise, which will run from Monday, March 16 to Saturday, March 21, 2026.
The recruitment will be conducted simultaneously at designated sub-county centres across all 47 counties, giving eligible applicants an opportunity to enlist in the government’s youth training and empowerment programme.
Officials said the collaboration aims to promote equal opportunities and remove barriers that have historically limited the participation of persons with disabilities in national youth programmes.
The initiative forms part of ongoing government efforts to mainstream disability inclusion in public institutions and ensure that development programmes are accessible to all segments of society.
According to officials involved in the exercise, youth with disabilities who meet the recruitment requirements are encouraged to present themselves at the designated recruitment centres within their respective sub-counties.
The National Youth Service offers structured training programmes that focus on discipline, technical skills development and participation in national development projects.
Successful recruits are usually enrolled in paramilitary training and vocational programmes designed to equip young people with skills for employment and entrepreneurship.
Authorities said the participation of youth with disabilities will strengthen diversity within the service while expanding opportunities for skills training and self-reliance.
The National Council for Persons with Disabilities has been working with government agencies and partners to promote equal access to education, employment and public services for persons living with disabilities.
Interested applicants have been advised to visit the official NYS website or report to their nearest sub-county recruitment centres during the exercise week for more information on requirements and the recruitment process.
