2024 KCSE Exams Kick Off
The 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) main written examinations commenced today, with candidates sitting for English Paper 1 and Chemistry Paper 1. The practical and oral exams for elective subjects began on October 22nd.
A record number of 965,501 candidates are participating in this year's exams, held across 10,755 centers. This marks a significant increase from the 903,138 candidates who sat for the exams in 2023.
Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba has issued a strong warning against any attempts to compromise the integrity of the KCSE. He assured the public that all examination papers are secure and in safe custody, dismissing rumors of leaked materials.
The Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) has implemented new safeguards, like customized exam papers and the removal of extra copies, to further improve exam security.
David Njeng'ere, CEO of KNEC, stressed the significance of rigorous adherence to security procedures, which include limiting access to exam rooms and forbidding the use of unapproved technology.
To ensure that the 2024 KCSE is administered securely and smoothly, a multi-agency approach is being used, which includes the Ministries of Education, Interior and National Administration, Information, Communication, and the Digital Economy, as well as the Teachers Service Commission.
