World Children's Day
Every year on November 20th, the world commemorates Children's Day, a unique event devoted to advancing the rights and welfare of children.
The day was adopted in 1959 by the United Nations General Assembly through the Declaration of the Rights of the Child, a landmark document outlining the fundamental rights of every child.
A decade later, in 1989, the Convention on the Rights of the Child was adopted, providing a comprehensive legal framework for protecting and promoting children’s rights.
World Children's Day is a day of reflection and action. It is a day to honor the wondrous potential of every child and an opportunity to advocate for a world where they can reach their full potential. As we observe this important day, let us shine a spotlight on children with disabilities.
While all children deserve the same opportunities and rights, children with disabilities often face additional challenges. They may encounter barriers in education, healthcare, and social inclusion.
Let this World Children's Day be a promise to us to work towards a future where inclusive education will be provided to all kids, regardless of their abilities.
We should also advocate for accessible and affordable healthcare services for children with disabilities. Additionally, we must combat discrimination and stigma, challenging societal biases, and promoting inclusivity and understanding.
Furthermore, we need to empower children with disabilities by supporting their potential and aspirations through education, training, and opportunities.
Lastly, we should collaborate closely with families of children with disabilities to provide necessary support and resources.
