National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula has voluntarily appeared before the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) as part of the ongoing probe into the death of former MP Cyrus Jirongo, who died in a road accident along the Nairobi–Nakuru Highway on December 13, 2025. Wetang’ula is among 28 individuals questioned to help reconstruct Jirongo’s final movements.

According to detectives, Wetang’ula met with Jirongo on the evening of December 12 at a restaurant in Karen, Nairobi, and the meeting lasted approximately one hour. After Wetang’ula left, Jirongo remained briefly before leaving in his vehicle, which was later involved in the fatal collision.

Investigators are examining witness statements, CCTV footage, and forensic evidence to establish a clear timeline of events. While authorities maintain that the crash appears accidental, the high-profile nature of the case has attracted intense public and political attention.

The DCI emphasized that questioning prominent figures, including Wetang’ula, is standard procedure in complex investigations. Officials have reassured the public that the inquiry remains focused on evidence, with no conclusions drawn about foul play at this stage.

Family members and political colleagues have called for a transparent investigation to clarify circumstances surrounding Jirongo’s death. Once the DCI completes its evidence collection, a comprehensive file will be submitted to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions for legal review and potential action.
