U.S. President Donald Trump has issued a dramatic ultimatum to Iran, warning that “a whole civilization will die tonight” if Tehran fails to make a deal by Tuesday evening.
Trump posted the warning on his Truth Social platform, emphasizing the gravity of the situation. He wrote: “A whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again. I don’t want that to happen, but it probably will.”
The deadline corresponds to 8 p.m. Eastern Time, targeting Iran to comply with U.S. demands, including the full reopening of the strategic Strait of Hormuz to international shipping.
The strait is a crucial maritime chokepoint through which nearly one‑fifth of the world’s traded oil normally passes. Its partial closure has raised global concerns about energy security and international trade.
In recent days, the U.S. has carried out strikes on Iranian infrastructure, including bridges and key facilities, signaling readiness to escalate if Iran does not comply.
Trump underscored the potential consequences, stating: “They’re going to have no bridges, they’re going to have no power plants … Stone Ages,” highlighting the military capabilities available to the United States.
He also framed the potential outcome in terms of regime change, suggesting that after “complete and total regime change … maybe something revolutionarily wonderful can happen.”
Iranian officials, however, have rejected U.S. demands and warned that any escalation would be met with retaliation targeting U.S. interests and allied infrastructure.
Iran’s president and other leaders stressed their commitment to defend the country, proposing a 10‑point plan that included security guarantees and removal of sanctions in exchange for reopening Hormuz.
Civil society leaders in Iran have also called for public demonstrations against attacks on civilian infrastructure, urging protective measures around power plants and critical installations.
