Uptyke Launches Innovative Digital Platform to Empower Students with Disabilities
Uptyke Education, in partnership with iHub and the Mastercard Foundation Ed Tech Fellowship, on Monday launched an innovative digital content platform designed to help students with disabilities.
According to the partners, this platform will greatly improve educational opportunities for students with a range of disabilities, including the Deaf and visual impairments, autism, and intellectual disabilities.
To guarantee that students, including those who live in remote locations, can access top-notch instructional materials, the platform will provide both online and offline accessibility.
Uptyke CEO Lilian Mutegi said the curriculum is offered in both English and Swahili and is in line with the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).
She also disclosed that the platform was created with Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles at its heart, guaranteeing that instructional materials like films, practical exercises, and customized tests may be modified to accommodate students' various learning requirements, which is in line with the Ministry of Education's focus on different and accessible digital learning experiences for all learners.
During the launch, Sheila Lutta, Assistant Director of Special Needs Education at the Ministry of Education, stressed the significance of making sure that students with disabilities are included in the digital learning revolution.
Her sentiments were echoed by Fred Owako, National Chairman of the Association for the Physically Disabled of Kenya (APDK), calling on organizations to support learners with disabilities, especially since the government continues to be the main source of funding in this space.
