Cabinet Secretary for Security Kipchumba Murkomen and Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja led the reception ceremony today for a contingent of 230 Kenyan police officers who successfully concluded their peacekeeping duties in Haiti.

The officers returned on Monday after serving in the mission, which is now referred to as the Gang Suppression Force (GSF).

Speaking at the ceremony held at Embakasi A Campus, CS Murkomen hailed the success of the mission, stating that it reaffirmed that Kenyan police officers are "among the most professional and dedicated."

He highlighted Kenya's established role in global stability efforts, noting the country’s United Nations mandate to deploy forces to maintain peace in troubled nations.

The CS acknowledged that this chapter of Kenya’s contribution to international security began in June 2024, when the then-Cabinet Secretary for Interior, Kithure Kindiki, entrusted the officers with their mission.

Murkomen specifically lauded the officers’ "discipline, integrity, and respect for the dignity of the people they served."

The ceremony also included a moment to honour the three gallant officers who paid the ultimate price in the line of duty. Murkomen extended condolences to their families, assuring them of the government's continued support.

The returning contingent arrived just one day after another group of 230 officers, drawn from various National Police Service (NPS) formations and units, departed for the Caribbean nation. This new deployment is intended to reinforce contingents already on the ground as part of the GSF, in line with President William Ruto's pledge that Kenya will not leave Haiti in a disorganized manner.

Senior security officials present at the reception included National Security Advisor Dr. Monica Juma, Inspector General Douglas Kanja, Deputy Inspector General (KPS) Eliud Lagat, and DIG (APS) Gilbert Masengeli.
