Ukraine’s Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko has resigned as part of a government reshuffle initiated by President Volodymyr Zelensky, with the move receiving approval from the country’s parliament, the Verkhovna Rada.

Svyrydenko submitted her resignation as Zelensky moved to reorganise the Cabinet of Ministers amid ongoing wartime challenges and efforts to strengthen government performance.

Under Ukraine’s constitutional system, the resignation of the prime minister leads to the resignation of the entire Cabinet, requiring parliament to consider and approve the formation of a new government.

Svyrydenko had served as prime minister since July 2025 after previously holding the position of First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy. She was appointed during a period of continued economic pressure caused by Russia’s invasion.

During her time in office, Svyrydenko focused on managing Ukraine’s economy, supporting international financial cooperation and implementing policies aimed at maintaining stability during the war.

President Zelensky said the government changes were intended to bring renewed energy into key sectors, including defence, economic management and Ukraine’s path towards European Union membership.

The reshuffle comes as Ukraine continues to face military pressure from Russia’s full-scale invasion, which began in February 2022, while relying heavily on support from international partners.

Zelensky has repeatedly reorganised senior government positions since the start of the war, citing the need for stronger leadership and improved coordination in critical areas.

The leadership changes are expected to focus on strengthening Ukraine’s defence capabilities, increasing domestic production and preparing for post-war recovery efforts.

The resignation has sparked political debate in Ukraine, with some lawmakers questioning the timing of the reshuffle and demanding greater accountability from government officials.

The new prime minister will be nominated by the president and must receive approval from parliament before taking office.

Despite the political transition, Ukrainian officials have said government priorities, including defence, economic resilience and European integration, will continue.
