Turkana Marks IDPD with Launch of Disability Fund, Strong Inclusion Pledges

The national commemoration of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) was hosted in Turkana County at the Moi Gardens Stadium on Wednesday.
The event, which saw the involvement of the National Council of Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD) and numerous partners, was widely hailed as a major step forward in achieving greater inclusivity for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs).
The celebration was themed "Fostering disability-inclusive societies for advancing social progress," underscoring alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Representing the Council, Director Freddah Lenaiyasa reaffirmed the commitment to implementing policies promoting the rights and welfare of PWDs.
The national commitment was further solidified by Mr. Nicholas Kitua (representing the CS for Labour), who reiterated the government's promise to implement the Disability Act of 2025.
Governor Hon. Jeremiah Lomorukai, Napotikan, used the platform to announce the passing of a county disability fund and promised to incorporate PWDs into all county government programs for essential support.
He also affirmed that PWDs seeking registration would continue to benefit from free medical assessment. The event showcased broad support, with key development partners, including UNICEF, KCB, UNDPK, KISE, CBM, and the WFP, lending their attendance and support.
