In a highly competitive job market, the path to a fulfilling and financially secure career is increasingly shifting from purely theoretical learning to practical, hands-on expertise.
According to experts from the Sensei Institute of Technology (SiT), Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions are the essential engines that empower individuals and unlock their full job-market potential.
Appearing on the Signs TV Breakfast Show, Abigael Lwangu, Administrator at SiT, emphasized the distinct advantage TVET training provides over conventional academic paths. "While other institutions of learning provide the theoretical knowledge, professional TVETs will give you practical knowledge which will empower you and unlock your potential in the job market," Lwangu stated.
She urged the public to embrace vocational education, stressing that "anybody can join a TVET Institution; it is fundamentally a place of getting skills."
Her colleague, Israel Odhiambo, Marketing Officer at SiT, echoed this, highlighting the urgent need for sensitization to address the challenges facing the sector.
He noted two major barriers: financial challenges and a widespread wrong mindset that unfortunately associates TVET training with low-class education, despite the high demand for skilled artisans.
The Sensei Institute of Technology (SiT) positions itself as a modern college committed to bridging the skills gap by offering industry-relevant training delivered through a practical-first approach.
The institute operates under the Competency-Based Education and Training (CBET) framework, ensuring its graduates are job-ready and possess skills aligned with modern industry standards.
SiT offers training in a wide range of high-demand technical skills, including: Driving (including heavy machinery), Mechanics, Electrical and Electronics, Plant Operator (Earth-moving and construction equipment), Building and Construction, Catering/Food and Beverages, Computer/ICT, and General courses.
By focusing on direct, hands-on training and modular delivery, SiT helps ensure that learning mirrors the realities of the modern workplace, positioning its alumni for success in formal employment or entrepreneurship.
