The government of Kenya has launched a 10-day mass Covid 19 vaccination campaign targeting at least 10 million people.

Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe speaking at the official launch of a mass vaccination drive at Riruta, Dagoretti South Sub-county on Thursday noted that, mass vaccinations will help protect Kenyans in case another variant of Covid-19 emerges.

Interior Cabinet Secretary, Dr. Fred Matiang’i, on the other hand, directed County Commissioners and Chiefs to mobilize the public and sensitize them on the benefits of the vaccine.

“All our administrators have been given a target. We must reach out to wananchi through structured engagement and help the Ministry of Health administer at least a million doses per day.”

“Our officers right from the County Commissioners up to the Assistant Chiefs are under instructions to deploy the power of persuasion and explain to the people why these vaccines are important under the prevailing circumstances,” he said.

Meanwhile, Siaya county commissioner, Mohammed Barre has said they are targeting to vaccinate over 200,000 people against Covid 19 within the next fortnight,

“We have been given a target to vaccinate 214,307 people within the next ten days. I believe we can achieve this through close collaboration between all the stakeholders” said the county commissioner who presided over the launch of the 10-day mass Covid 19 vaccination campaign at the Siaya county referral hospital grounds.

He urged Siaya residents to guard against negative propaganda against the vaccination, adding that medical research had proved that most fatalities from Covid 19 are recorded from those who are yet to receive the jabs.

Health CS appealed to the public to cooperate with medics in charge and turn out in numbers so as to hit the estimated target.
