Ten People With Disabilities Receive Special Wheelchairs In Narok

The Accessibility Institute (TAI) donated special wheelchairs to ten people with disabilities in Narok North Sub County. The wheelchairs are designed to be used on rough terrain, which will help the beneficiaries to move around more easily.

TAI co-founder Kenneth Mwarandu said that the organization aims to provide mobility devices to people with disabilities so that they can live active lives and pursue opportunities like everyone else.

“These assistive devices are called ‘safari seats’, they are made in such a way that they allow people to move through various geographical conditions,” he said, adding that the wheelchairs will not only help in mobility but also to access different opportunities.

He praised the caretakers and family members of people with disabilities for their support.

Mwarandu urged society not to hide people with disabilities and to register them with the National Council for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD) so that they can benefit from government programs.

One of the beneficiaries, Stephen Olesope Oleselel, said that the wheelchair will boost his mobility and livelihood. He called on society to ensure that all children with disabilities are enrolled in school.

Another beneficiary, Reverend Joseph Okulo, thanked TAI for the wheelchair and encouraged people to allow people with disabilities to discover their abilities and talents.

“This is amazing; this is one of the greatest help I have ever received. The chair is very stable, comfortable, and beautiful. We are so grateful,” Okulo said.

He also urged government institutions to build ramps for people with disabilities.

“We need to be empowered financially or even by the provision of mobility devices; I also call upon all government institutions to build ramps as people with disabilities are not in a position to use stairs,” Okulo added.
